The Bangladesh Meteorological Department raised the maritime warning signal for the country’s seaports from No. 1 to No. 2 in its October 26 bulletin as Cyclone Arnab intensified over the Bay of Bengal.
At 6 a.m. on October 26, the storm was reported about 820 kilometres southwest of Chattogram and 745 kilometres southwest of Cox’s Bazar. The department then forecast further intensification and a possible crossing of India’s Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay were advised to stay near the coast and proceed cautiously. As storm positions and warning signals can change, coastal communities and maritime operators should follow the latest official bulletins.
