A localised ceasefire began on October 27 in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian town of Oleshky to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations, according to officials from both sides.
The town has faced severe shortages of food, medicine and safe water. The operation is intended to bring medical teams and essential supplies before evacuation corridors are established. The arrangement followed negotiations facilitated by US First Lady Melania Trump, according to the reports.
Fighting and strikes continued elsewhere in Ukraine despite the Oleshky agreement. The arrangement is limited to a particular area and humanitarian mission, rather than a nationwide ceasefire.
