Bangladesh plans to establish cancer institutes in all eight divisions and expand radiotherapy services beyond major cities, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said on October 26.
Speaking at the launch of BRAC University’s master’s programme in medical physics, the minister said procurement of 17 linear accelerators was planned and that efforts to acquire robotic surgery equipment were underway.
BRAC University’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences Department introduced a two-year medical physics programme to help develop specialised personnel. The announced facilities and equipment remain plans or procurement initiatives; the minister did not say all were already operational.
