Bangladesh plans stricter oversight of pesticide imports, marketing and use to support food safety, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid said on Sunday, October 25.
Speaking at a safe-food seminar at Independent University, Bangladesh, the minister said existing import rules and testing systems needed review. He expressed concern that some pesticides not used in many other countries were being marketed domestically.
The minister said several committees had been formed to examine the policies. His remarks described a planned regulatory response, not a newly enacted ban or a completed change in law.
