Business Desk: Japanese automaker Toyota is considering a hybrid vehicle assembly plant in Bangladesh within one to two years, subject to policy support and investment conditions, BSS reported on November 3.
As an initial step, the company is planning approximately $40 million in investment for two sales, service and spare-parts centres in Dhaka and Chattogram. Construction is planned to begin in November, according to the investment authorities cited in the report.
The assembly proposal is not yet a confirmed production commitment. If realised, local operations could support technology transfer, jobs and after-sales services.
