Bangladesh and Japan signed six bilateral cooperation instruments and announced pledges for two yen-loan projects worth approximately US$295.5 million during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official visit to Japan. Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin outlined the outcomes on October 28.
The instruments cover maritime security, investment conditions, agriculture, fisheries and livestock, employment and skills, and climate cooperation. A grant agreement worth up to 2.12 billion yen provides for a patrol vessel for the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
The loan pledges comprise 15.88 billion yen for improving the investment environment and 30.68 billion yen for the second phase of the Upazila Governance and Development Project. These are financing pledges, not a statement that the full amounts have already been disbursed. The two prime ministers also met on October 27 to discuss broader bilateral cooperation.
