Bangladesh’s University Grants Commission is considering a dedicated satellite television channel for higher education to help reduce disparities in learning opportunities. A pilot could use existing technological facilities at Bangladesh Open University.
UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed discussed the idea at Bangladesh Open University’s 34th anniversary event on October 28. He said universities in remote areas often have fewer opportunities for academic exchange than those in major cities.
The commission also plans to connect around 180 public and private universities through a digital network over the next two years, potentially supporting high-speed internet, digital classrooms and joint research. The TV channel remains a proposal; no launch date has been confirmed.
