Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department advised Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to continue displaying Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 as Cyclone Arnab intensified over the west-central Bay of Bengal and nearby waters, according to its October 27 special bulletin.
The bulletin said the storm had strengthened into a very severe cyclonic storm. Sustained winds near its centre were estimated at about 118 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching 150 kilometres per hour. The cyclone was forecast to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast of India.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay were advised to remain close to the coast and exercise extreme caution. Conditions can change quickly, so mariners and coastal residents should follow the latest official weather bulletins rather than relying on an earlier forecast.
