New registration and licensing requirements for specified food businesses in Bangladesh are scheduled to take effect on 1 November under the Safe Food (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 2026.
The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority says the rules cover designated categories of food production and sale, including specialised products for infants, older people and people with particular medical needs. Street-food vendors, small restaurants, major processors and importers will also be subject to applicable requirements. Initial registration for 16 specified business categories is to be free.
The authority says displaying registration numbers on packaged products should improve traceability and complaint handling. It has also acknowledged that licensing alone cannot guarantee safety: inspections, enforcement, accessible application procedures and prompt responses to consumer complaints will be essential.
