International Desk: Developing countries need an estimated $305 billion a year for climate adaptation, compared with $28.2 billion provided by developed countries in 2024, according to the UN’s 2026 Adaptation Gap Report covered by Reuters on 4 November.

The reported 2024 funding represented an increase of about $1 billion from the previous year. Even a proposed target of $120 billion annually by 2035 would leave a substantial gap against projected needs.

The figures are estimates of adaptation needs and recorded financing, not funds already delivered to all projects. Climate negotiations in Turkey from 9 to 20 November are expected to revisit the financing commitments.
