National Desk: Bangladesh’s six-member garment wage board agreed on 4 November to introduce a revised pay structure from December, with the first payments under the new scale expected in January. The size of the increase remains undecided.
According to Reuters, workers are seeking a rise in the monthly minimum wage from Tk 12,500 to Tk 30,000 as living costs climb. Protests and clashes have disrupted factory operations in industrial districts including Savar and Gazipur.
The negotiations must address workers’ purchasing power alongside factory costs and export competitiveness. Any proposed figure remains subject to the wage board’s final decision and formal implementation.
