National Desk: A fire triggered by a gas blowout at a deep well near Chhota Inani in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, could take around 15 days to subside, according to Petrobangla. The incident began on October 27 when gas escaped during drilling at a depth of roughly 1,000 feet.

BSS reported on November 2, citing a Petrobangla statement, that two geologists from the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) are monitoring the site. Experts have advised allowing gas to escape for now to reduce the risk of the fire spreading.

Authorities have restricted public access within a 100-metre radius of the well. If the gas flow does not diminish as expected, technical teams will consider alternative firefighting and well-control measures. Petrobangla, BAPEX and local authorities say monitoring is continuing.
