Economy Desk: The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) aims to reduce its subsidy requirements by Tk 500–600 crore in the current fiscal year through lower financing and operating costs and additional commercial income, according to its chairman, Brigadier General Mohammad Foyshol Azad.

BSS reported on November 2 that TCB incurred Tk 2,514.22 crore in subsidies in fiscal 2025–26. Measures under consideration or implementation include direct distribution from regional warehouses, reducing duplicate beneficiary surveys and offering optional additional products.

The chairman said there was no plan to raise prices of existing subsidised products. He also cautioned that an expanding beneficiary base could increase total subsidy needs. The four-to-five-year goal of financial self-reliance remains a plan, not a completed outcome.
