Bangladesh’s State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam said on Sunday, November 1, that the government aims to generate 4,000 megawatts of solar power within the next three months.
He was speaking at a science-policy dialogue on black carbon and other short-lived climate pollutants jointly organised by the University of Dhaka and Stockholm University. According to the minister, the proposed figure includes 296 MW in Dhaka.
He also described an initial longer-term ambition of 10,000 MW of solar capacity, linking renewable-energy expansion to efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and improve air quality.
The figures represent targets announced by the minister, not verified operational generation. Detailed project schedules, financing arrangements and grid-connection milestones were not provided in the remarks.
