Visiting Chattogram-2 lawmaker Sarwar Alamgir met members of the Greater Chattogram Association UK in east London, where expatriate welfare and progress on the proposed new Kalurghat bridge were among the main issues discussed.
The meeting was held on Thursday, October 1, at the Adda Ghor restaurant in east London. Members of the Chattogram expatriate community and other representatives of the Bangladeshi community attended. The programme began with a Quran recitation, followed by a welcome and presentation to the visiting lawmaker.
The meeting was chaired by Greater Chattogram Association UK convener Barrister Abul Mansur Mohammad Shahjahan and conducted by Masudur Rahman. Founding president and trustee chairman Barrister Monowar Hossain highlighted the organisation’s activities and called for stronger protection of the dignity, security and fair treatment of expatriates during visits to Bangladesh, particularly at airports.
He also urged coordinated action to make construction of the new Kalurghat bridge visibly progress. Responding to the concerns, Alamgir said steps would be taken to reduce harassment of expatriates during travel and to ensure respectful treatment. On the bridge project, he said he would work with relevant stakeholders to help move the process forward.
Trustees, executive committee members, community figures and other participants also spoke at the meeting. The chair concluded the programme by thanking the visiting lawmaker and attendees.
