In a bid to facilitate the withdrawal of salaries and allowances for MPO-enlisted teachers and staff ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, four state-owned banks will remain open today (Friday) on a limited scale. This move aims to ensure that employees under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) system can access their funds in time for the upcoming festival.

The banks that will provide this limited service are Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, and Rupali Bank. However, transactions will only be available for a brief period, as per an official directive issued by the Bangladesh Bank on Thursday.

According to the central bank’s instructions, the designated branches of these banks will be open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. However, customers will be able to conduct financial transactions only between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. A scheduled prayer break will take place from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, during which banking operations will remain paused.

This initiative comes as part of the authorities’ efforts to ensure that teachers and staff under the MPO scheme do not face difficulties in accessing their salaries and allowances before the Eid holidays begin. The limited banking hours aim to balance the need for essential financial services while also respecting the traditional holiday schedule.

As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, financial transactions across the country typically experience a significant surge. The temporary extension of banking services, even in a limited capacity, is expected to provide some relief to thousands of MPO-enlisted employees who depend on these payments for their festive preparations.
