Dhaka, February 6, 2025: The vandalism at House No. 32 in Dhanmondi has been described as regrettable and unintended by the interim government. According to the statement, public outrage erupted as a response to Sheikh Hasina’s provocative remarks against the July uprising, which she made while in exile in India.
The government noted that for the past six months, there had been no attacks or destruction at House No. 32. However, last night’s incident was directly linked to Sheikh Hasina’s recent statements, which had two key aspects.
Firstly, Sheikh Hasina insulted and disrespected the martyrs of the July uprising. By making baseless, absurd, and hateful remarks about their sacrifice, she undermined and dishonored the uprising.
Secondly, even after fleeing the country following the uprising, Sheikh Hasina continues to issue threats in the same tone she used while in power. She has been making hostile remarks against the uprising and its participants while also attempting to destabilize the country.
The government emphasized that the wounds of the July massacre are still fresh in the public’s memory, and Sheikh Hasina’s repeated provocative statements are further aggravating those wounds. The vandalism at House No. 32 occurred as a reaction to her inflammatory actions.
The interim government reassured the public that it remains highly vigilant in ensuring the safety of the nation and its people. Law enforcement agencies are making every effort to bring the situation under control.
Furthermore, the government stated that as a fugitive and a wanted individual for crimes against humanity, Sheikh Hasina must refrain from making inciting statements to prevent such incidents from recurring.
The government also urged India not to allow its territory to be used for activities that could destabilize Bangladesh and to prevent Sheikh Hasina from delivering speeches that fuel unrest.
The statement reaffirmed that the trial of those involved in the July massacre is progressing at full scale, and the interim government is committed to ensuring justice and holding the perpetrators accountable. Additionally, the government will explore legal measures against individuals engaging in incitement and provocative activities.
