Indian journalist Mayukh Ranjan Ghosh is synonymous with entertainment. Rather than focusing on the authenticity of his reports, viewers seem to enjoy his exaggerated gestures, studio antics, and loud speech.

A journalist from Republic Bangla, Mayukh frequently presents bizarre and unfounded claims. He has been widely criticized in Bangladesh for controversial remarks, such as predicting the country’s disappearance or the occupation of Chattogram.

This time, Mayukh faced Bangladesh’s interim government’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, in a heated online Q&A session on Monday (January 3).

During a live connection to a Bangla talk show that night, Mayukh questioned Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Anticipation was high regarding how aggressively Mayukh would question him.

Surprisingly, Mayukh appeared quite composed. He inquired about the alleged sale of Saint Martin’s Island, the availability of beef in Dhaka’s restaurants, and even discussed the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s image being found in a dustbin.

Mayukh directly asked whether Saint Martin’s Island had been sold. In response, Shafiqul Alam clarified the situation and explained why tourist visits to the island were temporarily restricted.

Mayukh described this special talk show as a “Bangladesh-India match.” The discussion also touched on the Chinmoy Krishna issue and a Facebook post by Shafiqul Alam, where Sheikh Hasina was allegedly called “Person of the Year.”

The journalist further claimed that five officials from the Chief Advisor’s office were assigned to monitor his movements—how he gestures, walks, and runs. In response, Shafiqul Alam stated that Indian media, particularly Republic Bangla, continuously spreads misinformation about Bangladesh.

Shafiqul Alam invited Mayukh to visit Bangladesh and see the situation firsthand. Mayukh responded enthusiastically, saying he would come, enjoy kacchi biryani, payesh, and firni, and conduct an interview with Dr. Yunus while indulging in the local cuisine.
