In a recent interview, Actor Akshay Kumar emphasized the need to highlight the stories of India’s brave soldiers in history books. While promoting his latest film, Sky Force, where he plays an Air Force pilot, the 57-year-old actor pointed out that textbooks often focus on figures like Akbar and Aurangzeb instead of unsung Indian heroes.

In the interview with News18 Showsha, Akshay expressed his desire to spotlight overlooked historical figures through his roles. He said, “There’s so much missing from our history books. I intentionally choose roles that tell the stories of unknown heroes. People don’t know about them because no one digs deeper.”

Akshay strongly advocated for changes in history education, stating, “Our history books need corrections. They include Akbar and Aurangzeb but leave out our heroes. These brave individuals deserve to be recognized.”

He also spoke about the courage of those awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor. He stressed that their stories of resilience and sacrifice should be shared with future generations. “There are countless inspiring stories from the army, but they’re not included in our books. We need to bring these leaders and their bravery to light,” he said.

In Sky Force, Akshay portrays Wing Commander KO Ahuja, a character inspired by Wing Commander Om Parkash Taneja, who fought in the 1965 India-Pakistan war. Taneja was awarded the Vir Chakra for his heroic mission in September 1965, where he destroyed enemy aircraft and a runway.

The film, directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, also stars Veer Pahariya, Nimrat Kaur, and Sara Ali Khan, and is set to release on January 24.
