
Trump at the White House: Russia-China Strengthen Ties.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have pledged to strengthen relations between their two countries during a video conference.
This announcement came just a day after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
According to a report by Russian news agency TASS on Wednesday, Putin and Xi discussed Eurasian security and bilateral relations during the video conference. Both leaders reaffirmed that Russia and China are working together to enhance security in the Eurasian region.
In a subsequent statement, Putin said, “We are working towards ensuring indivisible security in the Eurasian region and the world.”
Additionally, Putin highlighted Russia’s role as a primary gas supplier to China.
He stated, “Five years ago, we launched the Siberian natural gas pipeline. Today, Russia has become China’s main natural gas supplier.”
Putin emphasized that Moscow and Beijing’s relationship is built on friendship, mutual trust, and equal opportunities.
“Our relationship is based on a broad convergence of national interests and a shared vision of how major powers should interact,” Putin added.
Meanwhile, Kremlin deputy spokesperson Yuri Ushakov revealed that Chinese President Xi Jinping briefed President Putin on the details of his January 17 phone call with Donald Trump.
“Xi Jinping shared the essence of his conversation with Trump with Putin,” Ushakov said.
During the video conference, the two leaders also discussed the situation in the Asia-Pacific region and the Taiwan issue. The Russian leader reiterated their steadfast support for the “One China Policy.”
Additionally, they discussed the Ukraine situation and Russia’s relationship with the United States in light of the Trump administration’s assumption of power.
Ushakov stated, “The Ukraine situation and our two countries’ relations with the United States naturally came up during the discussions.”
