Biswadip Das, a senior editor at bdnews24.com, has taken charge as acting editor-in-chief of the online news organisation following the death of its founding editor-in-chief, Toufique Imrose Khalidi.

The management appointed Das to lead the newsroom during the interim period. Khalidi died at a London hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage, leaving a major leadership gap at one of Bangladesh’s longest-running digital news organisations.

Das has been closely associated with bdnews24.com since its transformation into a round-the-clock online news operation in 2006. He joined as an editor during that transition and later served as a senior editor, giving him long institutional experience with the newsroom and its editorial processes.

His background includes studies in English literature, journalism and law. Before and during his career in digital media, he also held positions at The Financial Express, The Daily Star and Independent Television.

The appointment is intended to provide continuity while the organisation adjusts to Khalidi’s death and determines its longer-term editorial leadership structure. Khalidi had served as editor-in-chief and managing director and was a central figure in the development of the outlet’s digital-first model.
