Bangladesh defeated Thailand 3-0 to secure seventh place in the men’s hockey competition at the Asian Games. The team started aggressively and took an early lead when Roman Sarker scored in the third minute, giving Bangladesh control of the placement match almost immediately.

Bangladesh continued to press in the second quarter and doubled the lead in the 27th minute through Amirul Islam from a penalty corner. Thailand attempted to respond with counter-attacks, but Bangladesh’s defensive structure limited clear chances and allowed the side to carry a two-goal advantage into the later stages.

The result was sealed in the 53rd minute when Ashraful Islam converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-0. Bangladesh protected the lead through the final whistle and ended the tournament with a convincing victory in the seventh-place playoff.

The match offered several positives for Bangladesh, particularly the conversion of set-piece opportunities and a disciplined defensive performance. Longer-term progress in Asian hockey will still depend on sustained fitness work, stronger domestic competition, effective penalty-corner routines and a stable player-development pathway capable of producing depth across positions.
